A major refurbishment over the last couple of years in this cosy old pub has created a non smoking bar, a smoking bar and a new non smoking restaurant area, a private dining area and a small & large conference room with excellent facilities. There are wooden floors, comfy leather sofas and seats, a mix of nice wooden tables and wooden or leather dining chairs, low beams and some standing timbers, a warming log fire in a large knocked-through canopied fireplace, and two further wood burners in the restaurant areas. The concept behind the extremely good modern is to supply food and drinks to customers at certain times of the day, varying menus to suit their needs. The lunch menu is quick and very informal, it is classy pub grub brought up to a modern style, without compromising on quality and freshness, starters; Moroccan flat breads, houmous and black olive tapenade £3.50, Peruvian escabeche of whitebait, chilli oregano & lime £7.50, Light bites; Bruschetta, mozzarella, oak roasted peppers & home-grown rocket pesto £8.50, Mains; Vietnamese marinated chicken ciabatta, pesto & French fries £9.50, Crispy beef stir fry, pak choy, oyster mushrooms & crispy noodles £10.50. In the evenings there is the option of the A la carte menu or bar snack menu. The A la carte menu; starters such as; Fantastic plate of smoked fish & shellfish, pickled cucumber ribbons, beetroot relish £8.50, (V) Caramelised red onion, thyme & goats cheese tart, rocket pesto & walnut oil £7.00, Mains; Braised Lamb shank, celeriac puree & cassoulet of chorizo, judion beans, bacon lardons & thyme £15.50, Whole plaice, nut brown butter, brown shrimps, spinach, sugar snaps, capers, new potatoes & gremoulata £14.50. The Bar snack menu; Deep fried cod, mushy peas, hand cut chips & homemade tartar sauce £10.50. Sunday roast menu a proper traditional Sunday lunch choice of 4 local organic meats served with duck fat roasties, roast carrots, green beans, honey roasted parsnips, carrot & swede puree £11.00. Super puddings like Steamed gingerbread pudding, gingerbread ice cream and char grilled pineapple, Lime posset and passion fruit jelly or Rich chocolate pot, chantilly cream & griottine cherries £5.50. Well kept Adnams bitter, Woodforde?s Wherry and a guest such as Nethergate?s Augustinian on hand pump, 20 wines by the glass, 92 wines by the bottle, freshly squeezed orange juice along with a wide selection of soft drinks; piped music. There are dining tables outside in the beautiful garden, drinking area next to the vegetable patch which supplies the kitchen or the opportunity to enjoy a drink next to the river Yare which is just across the road.
